Alfia Go Wireles

October 2002

Alfia have added two new options to their range of Vision & Easipark Systems.

Alfia's Vision Pay & Display systems are now available with the new Aquarius wireless paging system, an innovative enhancement to pay & display that allows the operator to monitor their car parking operation from a remote location, the machine alerts the operator when it requires attention via a paging system (for example when it require tickets or the cashbox is nearly full).

Alfia's highly successful Easipark pay-on-foot system now has the option of a mobile intercom solution which enables the operator of a car park intercom system to transfer all the functions of their Intercom master station to a mobile operator carrying a DECT alarm phone.

In operation a full duplex speech path is opened between the mobile operator and the customer enabling mobile verbal assistance. The mobile operator can even raise the barrier from the handset.

If another call request is made whilst the operator is on the line, the operator will be alerted of a call request waiting. The handset can store 12 messages so no call request messages should be missed. If a call is not answered it will remain active and the message will be sent to the handset again, after a predetermined time scale.

The handset will also carry out all functions of a standard landline telephone.

The Blick DECT Alarm handset also has an inbuilt staff protection feature by way of a Red security button, which allows pre-set messages to be sent to other handset users. It can also request from the operator a self-acknowledgment to confirm safety. The times of the action can be programmed.

There are 10 pre-programmed buttons to control pre-set messages to individuals or other members of the groups.

Other Blick DECT Alarm features:

  • The ability to broadcast a PA message to all speakers on the system
  • Full duplex speech between handsets and internal or external telephones
  • Can receive RS232 message for display on a handset or groups of handsets
  • Maximum of 128 handsets on the system
  • Handset to handset text message facility
  • Can receive messages from third party equipment
  • Large screen display ® 32 characters
  • 10 Hours of talk time, 90 Hours of stand-by time
  • On screen battery charge indicator
  • 10 different ring tones. Can be changed to identify alarms or messages
  • 12 Stored text messages
  • Built in vibrate alert
  • Internal PABX and DECT caller identification
  • Easily expandable

Norfolk & Norwich 2000 Hospital Development

February 2001

The new Norfolk & Norwich 2000, 973 bed hospital is being built on a 63-acre greenfield site close to the Norwich Research Park and the University of East Anglia.

It is one of the first and the largest complete new-built major district acute hospital to be developed under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) by a Consortium comprising BZW, John Laing Construction and Serco. It is expected that work on the site will be completed by January 2002 with an approximate project value of £214 million.

The new hospital will replace the Trust's two existing acute hospitals in Norwich — the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and the West Norwich Hospital. The Trust will retain Cromer and District Hospital as an integral part of its future plans.

Alfia Services Limited, have been awarded the contract to equip the hospital's many car parks with Easipark, Pay on Foot parking systems. The total project consists of eight entry ticket issue machines, six exit ticket readers and nine pay on foot machines, five entry passcard lanes and four exit passcard lanes and 22 barriers all linked to a central PC control. Alfia begin installation of the system in early February.

"This is a large contract to be awarded, which of course we are delighted with, but what makes it more rewarding is that it is for a new hospital development which is something we are pleased to see and proud to be part of" remarked Alfia's Project Manager, Ian Elliott.

Alfia add Norfolk & Norwich 2000 to an increasing portfolio of large hospital installations, including the Derby General, Derby Royal Infirmary, Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge & Warwick & Stratford Hospitals.

Bexley Heath has a new shopping centre despite the War!

January 2001

Shepherd Construction is nearing completion of the £10 + million contract to construct a new shopping development in Broadway Square, Bexley Heath for Bride Hall Developments Ltd.

Alfia Services Limited have provided the Easipark parking system for the two level 340 space car park, with two entry lanes, two exit lanes and 2 pay on foot with a central monitoring cashier which opened on Friday, 19 January 2001.

The new shopping development has been welcomed by the local people of Bexley Heath and consists of 13,000m2 retail buildings; the whole project was built on a tight deadline and within a busy town centre.

Back in April 2000, the project hit upon a problem whilst digging the foundations, Shepherds unearthed an unexploded World War II bomb, the Police and local council were immediately informed and Bexley Heath town centre with over 2000 people within a 500 metre radius area around the site were evacuated, (A 1,000 lb bomb exploding in a clear area will spread shrapnel distances of up to one and a half miles away). Work was put on hold for two days while the Army disposed of the bomb remotely using a robot and the site was deemed safe for work to continue and residents to return to their homes and workplaces.

Not something that you would normally expect to find in the middle of a busy town centre!!

Alfia success in Ireland

January 2001

Belfast's Odyssey Arena is the showpiece of Odyssey, Northern Ireland's Landmark Millennium Project, one of the world's most adventurous and exciting leisure and entertainment venues.

Seating up to 10,000, the Arena is Ireland's biggest indoor venue attracting rock, pop and classical artistes from around the world. In conjuction with Blick, Alfia have installed an Easipark system consisting of 5 entries, 5 exits and 10 pay on foot machines.

Opening day was the 2 December 2000 with the parking facility offering 1500 spaces which was full to capacity with fans of the Ice Hockey Team, The Belfast Giants who played their first game at their new home venue. Eager to get to their seats, the car park system was put through its paces from the word go and ensured that everyone was parked and ready to see the 'face off' of the match.

The following week The Odyssey Area received another very important guest the outgoing President of the United States, Bill Clinton on the 13 December 2000, who made an address to the people of Belfast in the Arena.

Chris Cook, Alfia's MD said "We are very pleased with the swiftness of the installation, with the combined efforts of both Blick and Alfia, the whole project has been a complete success." The parking system will be supported by Blick in Ireland back up by Alfia's distributors HEA based in Castledawson, Co. Derry.

Alfia & CitySync join forces

May 2000

Alfia Services Limited & CitySync, the specialist automatic number place recognition system suppliers, have agreed to co-operate in a 'joint venture' approach with integration of technologies.

The new venture will allow CitySync to continue the development of the Alfia numberplate recognition software & introduce it to new markets outside of parking. Alfia will concentrate its sales & marketing of the product in the parking area, extending Alfia's already impressive range of parking systems.

Chris Cook, Alfia's Managing Director said: "It's an exciting time for both companies, we have been extremely pleased with the development program, the result being a highly reliable, fully integratable product, simple but extremely accurate."

Alfia are one of the very few companies who are able to demonstrate live, fully installed parking installations in the UK including 'Ticketless' versions. The very fact that the system can operate 'ticket-free' indicates a very high level of accuracy in the performance of the software.

Current sites with the Optipark automatic numberplate reading system installed include: Two Rivers Shopping Centre (Staines), J Sainsburys (Greenwich), The Royal Swallow Hotel (Bristol), Royal County Hotel (Durham), Apcoa Burlington Square (London) & Glaxo-Wellcome.
